Steps to Implant placement
Generally this process is carried out over a number of stages over a period of between five to nine months, or more, should bone grafting techniques be required.
Pre-operative Assessment

Stage 1: First stage Surgery for placement of the Implant
Appointment 1:
The titanium implant is placed in the bone under local anaesthesia, where it is left to integrate with the underlying bone. Occasionally, as in the case demonstrated here, additional bone grafting with bovine bone and the use of a porcine membrane are required at this stage to augment the tissues where they are lacking..
After surgery to place the implant and restore the natural anatomy with bone grafting.

Appointment 2:
One week later the surgical area is reviewed and the remaining sutures are removed.
Stage 2: Second stage Surgery for Placement of the Final Abutment and Temporary Crown
Appointment 3:
Three months later the area is reviewed again, with x-rays taken to assess the integration of the implant.
Appointment 4:
A minor surgical procedure under local anaesthesia to locate the integrated implant, remove the cover screw and place the final abutment into the integrated implant allowing for the placement of a temporary crown. This will be in place for up to six weeks to allow for the creation of an ideal gum contour.
Post Operative Radiograph
The final abutment is placed and a temporary crown made to restore the occlusion so the denture is no longer required.
Stage 3: The Final Crown
Appointment 5: Impressions
The temporary crown is removed and impressions are taken for the final crown.
Appointment 6:
The temporary crown is removed for the last time and the abutment fitted into the integrated implant. The final porcelain crown is then tried in, checked and fitted.
