Removal of decay and Restoration of the tooth

Tooth decay results from the effect of acids produced by plaque bacteria that demineralise the surface enamel and allow massive penetration of the underlying dentine.  This in turn leads to breakdown of the overlying enamel and a cavity is formed.  The infected part of the tooth then has to be removed and replaced in such as way as to restore it to normal function and aesthetics.

Before. Grossly decayed first and second molars.

After. Teeth restored with directly placed composite resin over a Biodentine base to protect the remaining healthy pulp.
