Implants

In the past, if you lost a tooth, the only way of restoring the gap with a fixed restoration, was by means of a bridge.  This often involved preparing the teeth either side for full coverage crowns resulting in the loss of large amounts of healthy tooth tissue.  When the bridge failed, it commonly did so with further damage to the supporting teeth necessitating root canal treatment and occasionally extraction, so that the gap simply got wider.  Now, we are able, using titanium implants, to replace teeth with no damage to the teeth either side, with all the advantages that gives. We are also able to restore areas where the normal contour is lost following the extraction of the root of the tooth.
